POSITION OVERVIEW
Gallopade is seeking an Editor to join our rapidly growing company as part of our Product Development team. If hired for this role, you will be responsible for editing print and digital curriculum resources aligned to state science standards for grades K-5. In addition, you will edit content for other Gallopade products designed to support science education. Some writing may be involved, but the focus is on editing.
The ideal candidate has a strong science background and professional editing experience in the K-8 curriculum industry. As an editor at Gallopade, you have the unique opportunity to create resources that equip teachers to teach in an engaging, effective way. By enriching the teacher and student experience, you will also contribute to Gallopade’s significant growth in its position as an industry leader and innovator.
Key Responsibilities:
Edit content for print and digital elementary science curriculum and supplemental resources aligned to state standards. This content includes student book text and activities, lesson plans, learning assessments, and supplemental teaching tools such as video scripts and biographies.
Evaluate, train, and manage freelance editors hired by Galopade on a project basis.
Collaborate with Gallopade writers and graphic designers.
Maintain and implement Gallopade’s Style Guide.
Oversee corrections to Gallopade products as needed.
Work with other departments, including marketing, production, sales, and management.
Contribute to the development of new product ideas and strategies.
Key Competencies:
Formal education or training in science, with a strong understanding of science concepts and instructional strategies
Ability to edit science education materials for accuracy and clarity
Strong knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the principles of good science education
Required Experience:
8-10 years of professional educational publishing editing experience
Professional grammar and proofreading skills
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field preferred
Exceptional attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong project management skills
Technical skills should include proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive
Teaching experience is desirable but not required for the position
